According to Shinto idea, everything around people -sky, sea, fire, air, land, house, food...Everything!!- have their own "spiritual matter" and they bring people something nice, then people have to thank them... That is why, Shinto Shrain make some festivals... Usualy, shrains make the biggest one once in a year. The "spiritual matters" are called "KAMI" or "KAMI-GAMI"...

Wakkanai city's largest Shinto Shraine is "Hokumon-Jinjya" and the Shrains Festival is from 4th to 6th of July.

In the Festival, people bring "O-MIKOSHI" or the wagon for "KAMI-GAMI" and make parade. That parade means... People invite "KAMI-GAMI" and say thank them and pray that they bring more happiness...

At Wakkanai, there is such kind of parade in the city or on the roads... In addition!! There is a parade on the sea!! People bring "O-MIKOSHI" on fishery boat and call that "GO-ZA=BUNE" or the boat for "KAMI-GAMI". And many boat join the paarade with the boat's cerebration flags when the catch is very rich... People pray safety for fishery or works on the sea and rich catch...

Wakkanai is on the sea side and a town of fishermans. That is why there is this kind of tradition. It seems very interesting!!
