The Mermaid at Sapporo Station

I an not be sure that this is famous or not... The little mermaid is sitting in Sapporo Station.

This is a half size replica from famous Copenhagen's one...

JR Hokkaido or the Railway company on Hokkaido and The Danish Railway signed a friendship treaty in 1990 and they set this Mermaid for the memory of that treaty...

The Mermaid is watching many passengers at the West Gate of Sapporo Station...

are student in Hokudai?? and you are foreigner?? Thu 4-Jan-2007 10:19

I visit "BANEI-KEIBA" again...

Heater is neccesary for this season...
Heavy horses march on this sand...

1 min. 40 sec. or 2 min for 200-meter... It sounds too slow for horse racing...

However, the "BANEI-KEIBA" is so...The Racecource is 200-meter-long straight separate courses with 2 humps in the middle. The corse is covered with over 30-centimeter deep sand, and horses star frpm the gate clear 1-meter high 1st hump and they fight with 1.5-meter high 2nd hump. And the horses pull 500-kilogram or more heavy sleights.... Most of race horses are large-size breed from Hokkaido, Japan. The horses are around 1,000 -kilogram!!

I became a fan of this unique horse racing and visit Obihiro again and take many pics!!

My friend, Naka-san, is a most remarkable man. His voluntary contributions to inter-cultural understanding have been an invaluable resource to me in my professional writing. These most interesting photographs and text are perfect examples. Keep up the good work, my friend. Sun 31-Dec-2006 15:55
